This was released today in response to the recent tragedies:
The Governor's Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes shares the
sentiments of our President George Bush's outrage and resolve. The
attack suffered by many Americans in New York City and other parts of the
country will not destroy our spirit. We ask that all of our citizens
embrace each other in this time of sorrow and shock.
Governor George H. Ryan joins the membership of the commission in calling for
calm and clarity of thought and behavior. The Governor implores all
Illinois residents not to allow terrorism to blind our faith in Democracy
where everyone's rights as citizens should be protected. We should avoid
indiscriminate acts of hate against any individual and communities.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact Jimmy
Lee, Assistant to the Governor for Asian American Affairs (312) 814-2121.
