Each state may have different laws concerning the carrying of weapons that may be read to apply to kirpans. However, a Sikh may be entitled to wear a kirpan under applicable state and federal law. Many states and the federal government protect the free exercise of religion and the right to bear arms through their constitutions, statutes and regulations.

Check for new flight regulations at www.faa.gov . Read Security Tips for air travelers. Passengers traveling on an airplane should place their kirpans in checked baggage only (not in carry-on bags). While this procedure may be inconvenient to Sikhs, airplanes present unique security concerns, that mandate this policy.
